An INFOSEC Assurance is a high-level review of the Information System Security (INFOSEC) posture of operational system(s) for the purpose of identifying potential vulnerabilities. Once identified, recommendations are provided for the elimination or mitigation of the vulnerability. NSA's IATRP Program sets the standards for INFOSEC Assurance services through the INFOSEC assurance methodologies.
Under the authority from National Security Directive (NSD) 42, NSA is tasked with raising the INFOSEC Assurance posture of National Security Systems of U.S. Government agencies, departments and the private sector. Since NSA has limited resources to meet the ever-growing demand for INFOSEC Assurance services, the INFOSEC Assurance Training and Rating Program (IATRP) was developed as a partnership between NSA and private INFOSEC Assurance providers such as Learning Tree. To qualify for an IAM or IEM certificate of completion, students must: attend the entire appropriate class and obtain a passing grade (at least 70 percent) on the final exam.
